Rockwool

Rockwool, as appellate so, is one of the strongest thermal insulations and structured by mineral rock fibers. The basic raw material for rockwool is Basalt rocks which are volcanic residuals and can be found extensively in our country.

Due to structural impurities of Basalt rock, the rockwool products might no show homogenous structure. For manufacturing rockwool insulations, the basalt rock is initially melted at 1500 degree centigrade and is formed as molten silicate. The molten silicate is then reduced to very thin fibers through specific rolling processes which constitutes rockwool insulation products.

Rockwool insulations can be produced in many various forms, with different densities and various sizes. The range of rockwool insulation products includes loose wool, which fills the gap and cavities between walls, tube shapes, blanket, mattress and panels. The products are offered with external jacketing or without. Rockwoll insulations are quite harmless to the skin and do not show any short or long term detrimental effects. In addition, rockwool insulations are perfectly compatible with other constructional elements and materials. The working temperature range of rockwool is from -300C to +7500C. The insulating characteristic of rockwool is 33 times greater of equivalent concrete wall and 22 times greater than equivalent brick wall.

Mineral wool insulations envelope more than 44% of total insulations, used in industrial and residential sections.

Rockwool Applications

Rockwool and slagwool insulation products are offered in loose forms, blanket, pipe sectional, panel and mattress forms which all have their own specific applications. Rockwool insulation products are mostly used in constructional sections, petrochemical complexes and refineries, power plants, food industries, piping and installation, glasshouses and industries which confront extensive heats, such as furnaces, melting pots, ovens, hot air canals and ducts, chemical gases and chimneys, oil tanks, boilers, steam tanks and many other various applications.

Rockwool is one of the cheapest insulation products, comparing with organic or polymeric insulations. Mineral wool insulations can be considered as the most available insulating products in Iran.

Rockwool Properties

As a mineral fiber insulating material, rockwool has been considered as one of the best insulations and has unique properties, which some are addressed below:

 * Rockwool insulations can be produced in a wide range of sizes (from 2cm to 20cm in thickness).

 * Rockwool insulations can be produced in a wide range of densities, from 40kg/m3 to 200kg/m3.

 * Rockwool is resistance to direct flame, over heating and acoustic noise and can perform as both fire-retardant and acoustic insulation.

 * Due to inorganic structure, basketries, fungal and natural contaminations can not grow through rockwool insulations and it is known as clean insulating material.

 * Rockwool has perfect compatibility with green environment, as it is made out of 100% natural materials.

 * Rockwool is not corrosive and corroded as well and is not rusty and has great stability.

 * the price of rockwool insulations is very low, in comparison with organic and polymeric insulation materials.

 * Rockwool has a very wide range of applications, including oil, gas and petrochemical industries, residence, piping, furnaces, boilers, chimneys, etc.

 * Rockwool waste material is considerably low; in complicated geometries it might reach to 5% at max.
